Quebec to resume processing of suspended international student CAQ applications

Designated Learning Institutions

This suspension affected several Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs). However, Canada College, CDI, and the Montréal Campus of Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles, appealed against this decision in the Quebec Superior Court.

These institutions were successful in securing the injunctions against this suspension policy. DLIs are educational institutions that received approval from the Quebec government for welcoming international students.

The Superior Court of Quebec stated the decision on January 11, 2021. However, the court stated that the mistrust of the Ministry on these programs is not unreasonable. However, the suspension establishes an important inconvenience for the students.

Moreover, these are the students who successfully organized their lives in order to study in Quebec this winter. However, it is also ordered that MIFI start to process these applications and their renewals.

The court’s decision means that thousands of students who cannot get their study permit to study in Canada. They will now be able to start or continue their studies in Quebec within a few months.
