The RNIP (Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot) is an economic pilot program that aims to target foreign nationals who received a recommendation for a participating community. This program started with conservative criteria to make sure that the community is capable of managing potential demand. Therefore, after ensuring the capability of the community, they are going to make requirements easier. It will be helpful for the economic growth of the local community.
What are the Changes?
The most notable and important change that will be beneficial for employers is that they will be able to hire more employees. Employers had to pay $25 per hour before this change, but now they’ll have to pay $23 per hour.
Additionally, there is an exemption for people who are living, working, or studying in this community. However, the candidates will need to be living in the community for at least six months to get an exemption. Moreover, their current wage should be between $18 to $22.9 per hour. They will also need to have a score of at least 30 points in the community’s point system.
According to recent changes, there has been an increase in points for the candidates who have worked or studied. The candidates should have work or study experience in the same community. Moreover, candidates having at least six months of work experience will not get 15 points, which previously was 10. However, candidates how have studied for at least two years in the last five years will get 10 points. It was previously six.
There was an increase in points for candidates having immediate family members in the same community. Previously, they were getting two points, but from now on, they will get three points for each adult immediate family member living in the same community for at least six months. Previously, the number of points for every candidate was eight for having immediate family members. Such candidates will now get nine points.
The community also reduced points. Applicants will now get 10 points for having work experience outside the community, previously 15 points. There were also changes for points regarding age. Candidates under 25 will get benefits from this change. They will get three points now instead of two.
What is the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP)?
The federal government of Canada works with remote and small communities across Canada. The government helps the communities to attract and retain potential foreign workers. It can be helpful for the economic growth of these communities.
There is a total of 11 communities that are currently participating in this pilot. However, Vernon-Okanagan, B.C., is one of them.
