The PGP program is one of the PNP – Provincial Nomination Program. In PGP, we can apply specifically to the immigration of parents and grandparents. There are many other programs under the Provincial nomination program (PNP) for other family members or friends. Those who want to apply for the Parent and Grandparent Program (PGP), through the online application form, should make sure that they are meeting all the program’s eligibility requirements. The interested candidate’s application forms will select by Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), from October 13th to November 3rd.
Those people who are getting selected should be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or status First Nations. Along with these requirements, the applicant needs to be 1 year of age or older and should support the parent or grandparent they are applying for. These individuals should also prove that they can look after all the family members from their salary once they become a sponsor. Hence, all the sponsors should ensure the amount of money they will require to look after their family members before applying for PGP. Which Key Factor is responsible for the eligibility?
The Minimum Necessary Income (MNI) plays a vital role in the eligibility process. The proof of the MNI has to be shown only after you have applied for the program. Then, those sponsors having sufficient income will be shortlisted. This will also eliminate those who will not meet the necessary income requirement.
Those selected sponsors residing outside the Canadian province of Quebec need to immediately provide Notices of Assessment from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). As the applications will start by January and February of 2021, IRCC added that the applicants should meet the minimum income requirements for 2020, 2019, and 2018. IRCC also said that the applicants could submit their 2020 Notice after they applied for the form for PGP.
Also, interested applicants need to describe their family size. It is crucial for the confirmation that they can meet the minimum required income. This will include all those members for whom they are responsible after becoming a sponsor, like:
- The sponsor himself
- Spouse or common-law partner
- Their children (dependent)
- Their spouses or partner’s dependent children (if any)
- Any individual the sponsor may have sponsored earlier
- The parents and grandparents, whom they will sponsor along with their dependents,
- Any dependent who is not coming to Canada with their parents or grandparents
- Sponsor’s parents or grandparents spouse or partner, even if they are not coming to Canada
- Their parents or grandparents separated spouses.
For those sponsors who are residents of Quebec
Apart from the three-year income requirement, the sponsors living in Quebec also need to show sufficient resources from the last 12 months to sustain their family members.
Sponsors from Quebec need to know that Quebec’s Immigration Ministry is assessing their income. This evaluation will be based on the requirements of the PNP – Provincial Nomination Program. A signed undertaking is required by both IRCC and the Government of Quebec. This undertaking will be stating how long the applicants will be responsible for their family members. The duration will start soon after they become a permanent resident of Canada.
