Canada Delaying Parents and Grandparents 2020 Immigration Lottery
Recently, IRCC announced that they would delay the Parents and Grandparents (PGP) 2020 immigration lottery. However, they will delay the lottery until early 2021.
Moreover, the lottery was going to take place by the end of this month. However, the number of factors, including the COVID-19 pandemic, will cause a delay. IRCC opened the PGP 2020 expression of interest window for the potential sponsors in October.
However, the window was open for the potential sponsors from October 13 to November 3, 2020. Moreover, Canadian citizens and PR holders were able to fill out a form during this period. Sponsors could fill out the form to notify IRCC regarding their desire to sponsor their parents or grandparents.
Later, IRCC was planning to hold a randomized lottery for inviting up to 10,000 sponsors for submitting their PGP applications.
IRCC has currently stated on its website to delay the lottery. However, the department was expecting to hold the lottery by the end of 2020. The department will invite the sponsors to apply near the end of the year, so they expect to get applications in early 2021.
IRCC Explained Reasons for the Delay
IRCC explained the reasons for the delay to CIC in an email. However, according to the email, IRCC is currently working through this year’s submissions for removing duplicates. They will further release a randomized list and will start to send invitations for the sponsors to apply.
Moreover, the program opened later than usual in 2020. Due to the current circumstances beyond their control, such as the global pandemic, IRCC will invite potential sponsors to apply early in 2021. However, they are also updating their website to reflect this.
What to Expect from the Parents and Grandparents Program in 2021
Next year is going to be a crucial year for the PGP. However, after the PGP 2020 lottery takes place, sponsors who get invitations will have at least 60 days to submit their applications to IRCC.
Moreover, IRCC has already announced that the PGP 2021 window will be three times the size of 2020’s version. However, IRCC will open a new expression of interest window. This window will invite around 30,000 sponsors under the next year’s program.
However, Canadian citizens and PR holders can also use the Super Visa Program apart from the PGP. This program is helpful for the sponsors to invite their parents and grandparents to Canada. However, this visa will be valid for 10 years, and it is renewable.
