Express Entry: 5,000 ITAs in biggest draw ever

Express Entry Immigration

Families and individuals worldwide can immigrate to Canada within just a few months via the Express Entry Visa Canada selection system. The Canadian government introduced Express Entry system for the first time in 2015. It has become the main driver for skilled worker immigration to Canada. However, it is one of the most popular immigration systems globally.

According to the 2020-2022 Canada Immigration Levels Plan, Canada announced to offer permanent residence to more than 90,000 people. They intend to provide PR for people through Express Entry annually.

What is Express Entry Visa Canada?

Express Entry is an application management system by IRCC for managing and processing applications. However, they receive applications through three federal economic immigration programs of Canada for skilled workers.

These three programs are:

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program
  • Canadian Experience Class
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program

It is a competitive immigration system. This system ranks all eligible candidates against one another and then invites the candidates with the best rankings. Moreover, candidates having the best ranking are invited to apply for Canadian permanent resident status.

The ranking of candidates is based on various factors like education, age, language proficiency, work experience, and other factors.

Under this program, individuals and families who are willing to settle in Canada can get new permanent resident status within just a few months.

Largest Express Entry Draw

On November 18, 2020, Canada held its most massive Express Entry Draw ever. Canada has invited 5,000 candidates in this draw. ITAs have been issued to candidates to bring them a step closer to Canadian permanent residence.

Candidates required at least a 472 score CRS score to get an invitation in this round. Candidates received invitations in this draw applied for Express Entry Visa Canada. However, some candidates who applied for the Provincial Nominee Program got a score based on the CRS.

Candidates received points according to various factors like age, work experience, education, and English or French language proficiency. The candidates having highest scores received ITAs to apply for permanent residence in an Express Entry invitation round.

Tie-Breaking Rule

If there is a tie between candidates, IRCC will apply the tie-breaking rule. However, for this draw, candidates who scored 472 or more will need to submit their Express Entry Profile before October 27 at 06:18:11 UTC to get their invitation.

Moreover, the CRS score raised above 470 for all program draws this year. Draw for Federal Skilled Trades Program happened on August 6 this year, and invited trades workers required CRS of 415. However, Canadian Experience Class-only draws dipped into the 440s.

Provincial Nominee Program draws required more CRS points. It is because Express Entry candidates who received the nomination from any province automatically receive 600 CRS points. PNPs propose alternate pathways for getting PR for Express Entry candidates having lower CRS scores.

After the new draw, the total number of ITAs reached 92,350 in 2020. This year has set a new record for Express Entry. 92,350 is the highest number of ITAs issued to date. 2020 has set a new record for immigration for Canada.

Another reason for reaching this large number of ITAs is Canada’s commitment to welcome 400,000 new immigrants in 2021. However, most of them are coming to Canada via the Express Entry System.
