When the coronavirus hit the whole world badly, Canada’s immigration levels decreased. It was mainly due to travel restrictions. However, it was important for Canada to impose travel restrictions to avoid the spread of coronavirus.

However, Canada is now planning to increase its immigration levels and invite more and more immigrants. Canada is offering different programs for immigrants to welcome a large number of immigrants in 2020.

Canada Approved Coronavirus Vaccine

The whole world is now planning to release the vaccine for coronavirus. However, Health Canada has recently provided its first approval for a coronavirus vaccine. Health Canada provided its first approval on December 9, 2020.

This approval means that Canada is all set to start the largest vaccination campaign in its history. The approval was given to a COVID-19 vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech Manufacturing.

Health Canada has placed several terms and conditions on Pfizer-BioNTech that includes:

  • It gives further quality data to confirm that there are controls and processes to make sure vaccines of suitable quality are manufacturing.

However, according to CBC, Canada is now the third country in the world to authorize a vaccine. Moreover, the United Kingdom and Bahrain are the first two countries to authorize a coronavirus vaccine.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated in a tweet that 30,000 doses of the vaccine are set to arrive in Canada. The vaccines will arrive in Canada this Monday. However, 294,000 vaccines will arrive in Canada by the end of 2020. The prime minister also stated that millions more are set to arrive in early 2021.

Number of Doses

Canada is leading the world in the number of COVID-19 vaccines. However, Canada has secured vaccines on a per capita basis. The country has signed contracts with 7 different companies around the world. According to CTV, Canada has secured 414 million doses of vaccines.

Moreover, three other manufacturers are also offering their vaccines to Canada. The vaccines by these manufacturers are still under review by Health Canada.

Canada initially experienced success against COVID-19 during the summer. The curve flattened in Canada during the summer. However, the number of cases in Canada spiked in a fresh wave of lockdowns. The country has seen over 430,000 cases and around 13,000 deaths during the crisis.

The immigration system of Canada has been operating throughout the pandemic. However, the country is looking to get the immigration levels back on track after the pandemic. Canada held another major Express draw yesterday and invited 5,000 successful candidates.

Higher immigration is helpful for Canada to support its economic growth. However, the country needs more population and workforce due to its aging population and low birth rate.
