Ontario Meets Intake Limit for Regional Immigration Pilot

According to Ontario immigration, it has met its intake limit for the Regional Immigration Pilot. However, a new stream has opened for the first in 2020. According to an announcement, Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program will further intake forms from the people this year. These forms will stay on the waiting list.

Candidates will get a call if a spot comes up in 2020. Otherwise, the applications for the pilot will resume in 2021. According to the OINP statement: “Any candidates who will remain on the waitlist for 2020 will be added in the Regional Immigration Pilot program for 2021”.

Employer Job Offer Category

The pilot, which is under the Employment Job Offer Category, is helpful to use the OINP for bringing professional and skilled labor not available locally to smaller communities of Ontario.

In order to qualify, the candidates should have a permanent job offer from any of the three participating communities:

  • Cornwell
  • Chatham-Kent
  • Quinte West/Belleville

However, the candidates should also comply with the criteria for one of the Ontario Employer Job Offer Streams:

  • International Students
  • Foreign Workers
  • In-Demand Skills

Initially, this pilot was launched back in December 2019. This pilot offered a consultation period having a number of stakeholders in smaller Ontario communities. It provides an allocation of approximately 150 nominations.

Employer Job Offer Category Eligibility Requirements
International Student Stream

In order to qualify for this stream, candidates should have:

  • Full-time and permanent job offer under NOC 0, A, or B sees low wage levels for Ontario. However, for those who are already working in the position, their proposed wage should be equal or greater than the current salary.
  • Candidate must be graduated or met requirements for a full-time minimum two-year degree from any publicly-funded Canadian university or college; OR
  • Graduated or should meet requirements for a full-time minimum one-year post-graduate program from any publicly-funded Canadian university or college.
  • Should have completed at least half of their studies in Canada
  • Should apply within two years from the date of completion.
  • Legal status in Ontario.
  • Purpose of settling in Ontario.
Foreign Worker Stream

However, to qualify for this stream, candidates should have:

  • Any full-time and permanent job offer that falls under NOC 0, A, or B that is meeting the median wage levels for Ontario, and in a position that is important to the business:
  • For candidates who are already working in the position, their proposed wage should be equal or greater than the current salary.
  • At least two years of relevant work experience in the previous five years before the date of application;
  • Relevant compulsory licensing in Ontario, if the position needs you to;
  • Live or work abroad, visiting or studying in Canada on a valid permit;
  • Purpose of settling in Ontario.
In-Demand Skills Stream

Overall, this stream is for the candidates having specific skills that are in-demand in Ontario. In order to qualify, candidates should have:

  • A full-time and permanent job offer that falls under certain occupations in the construction sector or agriculture field. It meets the median wage in Ontario for employment, or a candidate should be in a position that is needed for the business.
  • For candidates who are already working in the position, their proposed wage should be equal or greater than the current salary.
  • At least 9 months of work experience in the last three years in any of the eligible occupations. Experience should be full-time and paid or should be the equivalent amount in part-time work in Ontario.
  • Seasonal works will not be accountable.
  • Equivalent high school Canadian education or higher.
  • Valid license or certificate at the time of applying for any claimed work experience that needs it.
  • At least CLB/NCLC 4 in French or English in all language competencies.
  • Living or working abroad, visiting or studying in Canada on a valid permit.
  • Purpose of settling in Ontario.
