The government will also increase BIIP visa charges by an additional 11.3% on 1 July 2021.

Global Talent Independent Program

The government will introduce a new Global Business and Talent Attraction Taskforce. It will attract international businesses and exceptional talent to contribute to Australia. However, this initiative will help support the post-COVID recovery and will boost local jobs.

The Prime Minister of Australia announced this program on 9 July 2020. It will be helpful to attract export-orientated Hong Kong-based businesses to Australia.

Pathways for New Zealand Citizens

The government announced extending the NZ stream’s income eligibility requirements for the Australia Immigration Skilled Visa subclass 189 to subclass 444 visa holders having eligible tax income. It also includes visa holders having taxable income above the Temporary Skilled Migrant Income Threshold for at least 3 of the 5 income years. However, the most recent year is also included in it. The government is planning to promote the uptake of this pathway to eligible NZ citizens.

COVID-19 Related Refunds

Specific visa holders can apply for a VAC refund. It includes Prospective Marriage, Seasonal Workers, Pacific Labor Scheme, Visitor, and Temporary Skilled Workers. Visa holders can get the VAC for the following visa waived once travel restrictions will end.

Other Information

At this point, it seems like there is no increase in the VAC, except for BIIP. However, the government will release a new Skilled Occupations List by March 2021. This budget did not address popular programs like State Nominated Visas and Student Visas.
